How Big is Your God?
How big is your God? Is He big enough to lift those burdens you are carrying from your shoulders? Is He big enough for the worries and concerns that have you pressed deep into your seat? Is it sickness that makes you weary, tragedy, loss, or something else just as terrible? Is He big enough to take on these giants who have overshadowed you in darkness?
A God Large Enough
For those whose God is large enough, it is not their condition to live in the shadows of these giants. For it was Jesus who said, “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness” (John 12:46 NKJV). It was in this same Gospel of John where it is written that Isaiah saw the Lord: “These things Isaiah said when he saw His glory and spoke of Him” (John 12:41). These things Isaiah said and saw are recorded in Isaiah chapter 6, such as. “Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed.” (Isaiah 6:10). These things were spoken of those who are blind and had hardened hearts—the same people who refused to believe in Christ even after seeing His miracles (John 12:37).
Experiencing Doubt
What is it about us that although we have seen and benefited from so much the Lord has accomplished, we, too, experience doubt when facing our giant issues? Could it also be that we are blinded and hardened, blinded by the size of the issue and hearts hardened with fear? This seems like someone secluded in darkness and not as one in the light. This is an excellent time to ask, “How big is your God?”
Isaiah was given the opportunity to have the curtains pulled back to peer into the throne room of God. The God which Isaiah saw was not a small God.
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.”
Isaiah 6:1-5
God is Larger Than Any Worldly Trouble
Our God, who walked this earth as a light to the world, ensuring His believers were not to abide in darkness, is much larger than any worldly trouble. Nothing will cast a shadow on Him, for He is seated much higher on His throne than any sickness, He is lifted much higher than any tragedy, and the train of His robe drowns out any loss. Even His voice, which shakes the foundations, overpowers the voice of worry and concern. There is no room for darkness but praise, for even in this world, it is full of His glory! “And one cried to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!’” (Isaiah 6:3). That is how big our God is! There exists no room for darkness where there is light. Jesus being lifted up on that cross overshadowed our giants with light. Our God truly is a big God!
