Eyes On the Prize - Heb 2:1

Eyes On the Prize – Remaining Faithful

In Hebrews 2:1, we read, “For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it” (NASB95). The Hebrews writer is telling us that we, as Christians, are to have our mind set on Christ and that when we take our mind off Christ, we will drift away. This passage tells us the importance of staying faithful and keeping our eyes on the prize, Christ!

Furthermore, Jesus has previously given us a parable about working for God and being ready. He also speaks of what our reward in the end will be if we are faithful. In Matthew 25:14–29, we read the Parable of the Talents. I would like to skip to the middle portion of the parable, verse 23. Here, we see how the faithful servant was put in charge over many things and was able to enter the joy of his master; the same is promised for us as Christians if we remain faithful (Rev 2:10).

It is essential for Christians to stay faithful until death despite what most denominations preach; you can fall away, you can go back to your old life of sin, and suffer eternally for it. But it is very important to know that you can always come back to Christ and then continue to live faithfully. “You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved” (Matt 10:22).
